Barton Carroll – Seattle, Washington – 2008.08.31

I met with Barton over Labor Day weekend to catch up a bit and have him be part of the Cameraphonic Sessions, that at the time I was just starting. I’ve been sitting on these photographs for awhile and decided to drag them from my hard drive to share.
Barton is a wonderful musician who grew up in the Appalachian Mountains and it shows in the music he plays. Deeply insightful and sometimes troubled lyrics are backed up by southern guitar picking and steel guitars.
I’d met Barton back in May of 2007, while he was touring with Dolorean as lead guitar. They were on a short West Coast tour and were playing in a couple towns in the Bay Area so my girlfriend, Rachel, and I decided to make a few days of it and see them play for a few nights. It worked out well since I enjoy recording shows and we got to see some of the coast. We hit it off pretty well with Barton and have kept in touch since.
These two photos were shot on Barton’s porch in the Fremont District of Seattle, WA. He lives dangerously close to a fantastic Cuban sandwich place called Paseo. I’d be 30 lbs heavier if I lived near there.
