Retribution Gospel Choir take the catchy beats from Low and turn up the amps to play a great mix of crude guitar rock with some of the bluesiest stoner-rock I’ve heard in awhile. Combined with Sparhawk’s usual dark lyrics, his vocals do not take top seat over the music, making for a very heavy sound.

Their nine minute epic, “Poor Man’s Daughter”, has to be one of the best jam’s I’ve heard this year.

The crowd he gathered was so immense that I couldn’t get up close to take photos so I made the best use I could from the backstage, peering the 70-200mm lens through the railing of the stairway and playing with the stage lights for a halo effect.

After watching a bit of his set I could see myself checking out his newer material as it does not seem to have strayed too far from his folk roots, just a bit more mature than his earlier material. With a large crowd of locals, they sang along to the Knights’ fun lyrics. Playing a set strictly of the songs from their album, Mingle, in chronological order, the guys had a lot of fun singing along and taking in the love that Seattle has for its local music scene.
